Advanced Beginner class: Has woven a few projects, knows how to warp and weave, and is ready to expand their skills.  

Spice up your weaving with fun and open weave, lacey structures.  ​​

The class project in the colors of your choice

Weave fabric with floats, gathers, ovals, stars and circles using both hand-manipulated and pick-up lace techniques.

You’ll weave 18 different lace patterns including weft faced, warp faced and variations of waffle weave. Your warp includes a three sections: Light, dark and alternating the two colors.

At home, you’ll thread just the slots with detailed instructions on how to alternate your dark and light colors. The rest of the threading and weaving is done in class.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to weave many variations of Huck lace using just a pick-up stick and with a heddle rod for more variations.

  • How to weave hand manipulated Leno Lace & Brook’s Bouquet lace in open, closed and hybrid sheds.

  • Hints on threading the holes, getting great warp tension, how to lash on your warp plus hemstitching.

  • Discover which of the lace patterns are you favorites and incorporate them into your next weaving project.

❋ Material Requirements:

  • Must have woven on a rigid heddle loom and can warp and weave independently.

  • Requires your own working Rigid Heddle loom, 12" looms require a 10-dent heddle, looms 15"+ can use a 7.5, 8 or 10-dent heddle.

    • 7.5/8-dent heddles can use any #4 weight plant fiber or acrylic yarn.

    • 10-dent heddles can use #3 DK plant or acrylic yarn or weaving yarns (8/4 or 3/2 cotton).

  • Ashford heddles are available for purchase with advance notice.

  • Other required weaving and warping supplies include; threading hook, shuttles, pick-up sticks, loom clamps, etc., will be sent to participants.

  • Only plant or acrylic fibers are allowed in the weaving studio. Yarn options and supplies to be provided.
